A lake, a dam and a long walkway
a reservoir, a dam walkway
Water is the easiest backdrop to plan around, because it is rarely in the way. This guide covers a reservoir with a rocky shore, a stone ledge by the dam wall and a straight walkway along the top.
I shot it on a bright, dry morning with a hard blue sky. I would go back in any season when the water is high and the sun is not straight overhead.

The shore
The rock at the water's edge is flat and warm, so it works as a seat. Couples look relaxed sitting down and the lake gives you a clean line behind them.

The dam wall
The wall and its stone ledge give a hard edge to frame against. Ask the couple to stand a step away from it so the shadows do not fall across their faces.

The walkway
A long straight path makes people walk, and walking gives you motion. The lamp posts repeat down the road and lead the eye to the far end.
Go early on a weekday. By noon the walkway has cars on it, and the light is flat and white.
