A hotel wedding with a lakeside hour

a boutique hotel, a mountain lake

The couple wanted two kinds of pictures: open air and warm interiors. We spent the late afternoon at a lake, then moved to the hotel for the evening.

Between the two I needed one lens and one fast prime for the dark bar. Everything else stayed in the bag.

At the lake

Wind decided the schedule. A long veil is a lot of fabric on a bare hillside, so we worked fast, and the bride carried a white paper parasol that gave her something to do with her hands.

Back at the hotel

The hotel had a wooden staircase, a tall window on every landing and a red-framed doorway that photographed itself. I mostly stood still and let them walk through it.

The evening closed with a dance floor under low fog and a lot of purple light, which looks better on a screen than in any print.

I stopped photographing once the cake came out. The last frame I kept is the first dance, because the room had gone quiet for it.
